Our Privacy Promise: ConvoAnchor is built for your privacy. All your data stays on your device. We collect no personal information, use no analytics, and never share or sell your data.

ConvoAnchor ("we," "our," or "the extension") is a Chrome extension that lets you save highlighted passages in ChatGPT as anchors and navigate them later from a sidebar. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

What Data We Collect

The extension stores the following data locally on your device:

Anchors — Highlighted text passages you save from ChatGPT conversations
Context — Short snippets of text before and after each highlight to help locate passages
Metadata — Conversation URL, conversation ID, notes, tags, and timestamps you add

This data is never shared, sold, or transmitted to any third party.

Where Your Data Is Stored

All data is stored entirely on your device using Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local). We do not transmit, upload, or sync your anchors or any other data to external servers.

We do not use chrome.storage.sync and do not sync data across devices.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transmit your data to third parties. Your anchors and notes remain on your machine only.

Host Permissions

The extension requests access to https://chat.openai.com and https://chatgpt.com so it can:

Read selected text on ChatGPT pages to create anchors
Scroll to and highlight saved passages when you open an anchor

Page content is processed only within your browser and is not sent elsewhere.

Chrome Permissions

The extension uses the following Chrome permissions:

storage — To save and load anchors locally
activeTab — To interact with the current ChatGPT tab
scripting — To inject functionality on ChatGPT pages
tabs — To obtain the current ChatGPT conversation's URL for anchor association and navigation. ConvoAnchor does not track or store your broader web browsing history.
sidePanel — To show the anchor sidebar
clipboardWrite — To allow you to copy highlighted text or anchor content to your clipboard if you choose.

Your Control Over Your Data

You can:

View, edit, and delete individual anchors from the extension sidebar
Remove all extension data by uninstalling ConvoAnchor from Chrome
Export your anchors for backup or external use.

Data Retention

Your anchors remain stored locally until you delete them within the extension or uninstall ConvoAnchor.

Children’s Privacy

ConvoAnchor is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Analytics and Tracking

The extension does not use analytics, tracking, or any third-party scripts. We do not collect usage statistics or personal information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
